Savannah's Telfair Museum of Art is an impressive facility with a large permanent collection and regularly changing visiting exhibitions. Among the 4,500 works in the permanent collection are paintings, sculptures, photography and decorative arts from three different continents. There is also an exemplary collection of American Impressionist works, including pieces by Gari Melchers, Frederick Frieseke and Childe Hassam.

Jack Leigh is one of the best loved homegrown artists in Savannah and he is widely recognized nationally. He is perhaps best known for the photograph which adorns the cover of the famous novel 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. Visitors to the gallery can view a variety of Leigh's works, which have predominantly Southern themes and include depictions of Georgia shrimp fishermen, South Carolina oystermen and Savannah shipping vessels.
