The Owens Thomas Museum is a building designed by famous Savannah architect William Jay and was built back in 1819 as the family home for the Richard Richardson family. Later during the depression of the 1820s, the property became a boarding house until its purchase by George Owens in 1830. Now under the ownership of the Telfair Museum of Art, the house is open to visitors who can view its fine regency architecture, as well as one of the South's finest examples of early urban slave quarters.
